How to Improve Mindfulness

Mindfulness and Meditation

Do you want to know how to improve mindfulness but hate to meditate? Does the idea of sitting on a little pillow with your eyes shut, sweeping stray thoughts out of your head over and over again, make you feel antsy? Me too. As a licensed therapist and online life coach, I often give my clients strategies to improve their lives as well as clear up any misconceptions they might have about what it takes to acquire and improve mindfulness.

Effortless mindfulness – the art of being present — is the key to a happy and healthy life. You don’t have to meditate in order to practice or improve mindfulness. In fact, you can be more connected with the present moment all of the time. Want to learn how? In this episode of the Love, Happiness and Success podcast, I’m teaching you strategies to become more self-aware and present!

How to Improve Mindfulness

Mindfulness is really about increasing self-awareness. Being self-aware and able to differentiate between “what is happening now” versus “what you’re thinking about” is the foundation of health, happiness, good relationships, and long-term success. Tragically, we humans can spend our whole lives trapped in our minds, yet rarely make contact with the here and now. In doing so, we miss the immense beauty the world has to offer, and the small moments that make life worth living. Worse, our minds can generate scary and distressing thoughts that, without mindfulness, we’re powerless to overcome. Whether you are dealing with toxic shame, wanting to grow in self-love, or combat low self-esteem, these all stem from the power of what our own mind tells us about ourselves. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. By connecting to the present moment, you can “get out of your head” and derail those distressing thoughts.

You are in the present moment when you are connected with physical reality: this is your anchor to the here and now. No matter what you’re doing, or where you are, you can be in the present when you simply see, hear, feel, smell, and taste. When you are in your body, you are not “time traveling.” Try it today and see just how easy it can be to stay in the present and improve mindfulness.
