She is very respectful and understanding. She helped me feel better
Hi, I’m Sharmishtha. I’m a Counselor and a Life Coach with a passion for helping people discover their true selves, and find inner peace and self confidence both within themselves and in their relationships. I particularly enjoy working with clients who may be dealing with relationship concerns such as communication issues, breakups or conflicting attachment styles. I also enjoy helping people develop a stronger, more empowered sense of themselves, whether it be about their race/ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, culture, and/or immigration status.
As a Life Coach
I can help you with a range of issues, including low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and career concerns. I believe in using evidence-based techniques and building a warm, collaborative alliance with my clients to help solve their problems.
As a “Love” Coach
While I don’t provide couples counseling, I’m all about helping you as an individual manage and thrive in the most important relationships in your life. Difficulties with communication, trust, sexual intimacy, and attachment styles are all issues with which I’ve worked. Breakup recovery is another important area of focus that I’m here to support you with.
As a Career Coach
Whether you are a fresh graduate, a career changer, or well-established in your field, I’m here to help with anything from resume writing to dealing with stress, feeling like you’re stuck in a job, or any number of work concerns with which you’re looking for support. Career issues can be emotionally difficult and I’m here to help you get unstuck and find your way forward.
I’m Here For You
I want to help you, wherever you are in the world, to feel a sense of safety, non judgment, validation, empowerment, self-awareness, and self-acceptance that can better foster change, awareness, and growth. I have been told I’m an accepting, safe-feeling counselor and coach. My aim is to provide a safe, calm environment that allows us to form a genuine relationship, collaborate on mutual goals, and first identify, then break down the barriers keeping you from living your most authentic and empowered life.
I grew up in a multicultural environment, moving from India to Singapore as a child and attending an international high school until coming to the United States for my undergraduate degree. Because of my own life experiences I am very aware that to many around the world, seeking professional counseling or coaching is something you do only when there is something wrong with you; it implies abnormality.
Because I grew up with this mentality, I waited almost two years before making a first appointment at the Student Health Services at my university. When I filled out the intake form, I hesitated at the question, “What brought you here?” After a few minutes, I wrote, “Recent death in the family.” I thought this was an appropriately heavy reason to want to see a counselor, and while it was true, it hid many other reasons that had prompted me to make the appointment.
Although I have always been an introspective person and have found my own ways to reflect, talking to that first counselor and vocalizing my inner thoughts helped me recognize that so many of the things I had internalized over my life were common problems experienced during adolescence and college, but ones I had never been able to express or fully understand. That experience showed me just how valuable a space like that is, and inspired me to pursue counseling as a career path for myself. I now provide others with a space that allows them reflection, validation, and understanding without judgment, as well as new ideas, skills and strategies to foster personal growth.
I am a graduate of Columbia University, with a Master of Arts and a Master of Education in Mental Health Counseling. I am fluent in both English and Hindi.
