How to Negotiate With a Narcissist Without Losing Yourself

Negotiating with a narcissist requires a different approach than negotiating with a cooperative partner. Emotional appeals and repeated explanations often fail.

One key principle Rebecca teaches is “Never JADE,” which means never justify, argue, defend, or explain. When you JADE, you give away your power. Instead, effective negotiation tactics involve staying brief, factual, and grounded.

This approach aligns with research showing that mindfulness increases cooperation and reduces emotional escalation in negotiations (Masters-Waage, T. C., Gino, F., & DeRue, D. S.).

Practically speaking, this may include setting clear agendas, limiting conversation time, and redirecting emotional accusations back to facts. Negotiation Tactics, Leverage, and Boundaries
