Questions About Getting Started:
How does this work?

We offer positive, effective, evidence-based private counseling and coaching to help you improve your relationships, grow as a person, and create the life you want. We also offer online classes.

What's the difference between a free consultation and a solution session?

A Free Consultation is an opportunity to meet with the counselor or coach of your choice to talk about your hopes and goals, learn about them, and make sure it’s a good fit before moving forward with multi-session, private counseling or coaching.

A Solution Session is a forty-five minute coaching session where you can talk at length about what’s been going on, and get our recommendations about specific things that will move you forward. You’ll leave with a written plan of action and no strings attached. (Although you can certainly meet with your coach again, if you’d like to). We charge $95 for this service.

How much does this cost?

Do you take my insurance?

We may be able to help you submit claims to your health insurance company if your work with us meets some specific criteria. Learn exactly what those are on our Rates and Insurance page.

How do I pick the best counselor or coach for me?

You can get acquainted with all our experts, read bios, and check availability on the Meet Our Team page of our website. (Scroll down halfway to see ALL our experts).

If you have specific questions, you’re welcome to call our office or start a chat to let us know what your goals are, or share information that would help us match you with the right person. Our client services team can then make recommendations about who might be the best fit.

How can I schedule an appointment online?

Please visit our Online Scheduling Calendar to view the availability of our experts, and choose the best day and time for you.

What if the person I want to meet with doesn't have any availability?

Our experts are popular! If you have your heart set on working with someone in particular, contact our office and let them know. We might be able to get you in.

Can I do my consultation call by phone instead of by online video?

Sure! Simply call our office at the time of your appointment and ask to be transferred to your expert. They’ll be waiting for you! 

Can I do a solution session in person?

Currently our solution sessions are only available online or by phone. 

What about THIS?
Can we do a three-way video call if my partner and I are in different locations?

Yes! We love working with long-distance couples by online video. Simply schedule your appointment, and then forward the confirmation email you receive (containing the Zoom link) to your partner. 

Then, at the time of your appointment, you can both click on the link (from separate devices) to be joined with your expert for a three-way video call. 

Tip: Double check the time zone your appointment was scheduled in if you and your partner reside in different time zones. We’d hate for one of you to accidentally miss the meeting! 

Do you offer counseling by text?

We do not. We provide real, meaningful, powerful, evidence-based counseling and coaching that’s designed to help you create real and lasting change in yourself, your life and your relationships.

This involves having an authentic relationship with a therapist or coach who can see you and hear you, so that they can truly know you, understand you, and help you. Meeting face-to-face online allows your coach to read your body language, or see the fleeting expression on your face after they ask a challenging question, or notice if you’re experiencing a big emotion. That’s why your work with us is transformation: We go deeper.

If we work together, you’ll be having a real relationship with a real coach or therapist who is invested in you.

We don’t do “cookie cutter” because you’re not a cookie. You won’t get cliche advice or canned responses from us.   Instead, you’ll get the full attention of a highly trained, smart, caring expert who knows YOU.

You’re an individual with a one-of-a-kind life. We offer you a true growth experience, and that means we both need to show up in an authentic way.

Can I meet with someone right now?

If you’d like to speak with a coach ASAP, schedule a solution session. Same-day or next-day appointments are often available.

You can dive into your situation with a caring coach, and get feedback and guidance. You’ll get a written action plan sent to you after your meeting with our recommendations, and things that you can do to move forward.

Can I book a session with Dr. Lisa?

Dr. Lisa Marie Bobby is not currently accepting new clients. However, she is working closely with our entire team behind the scenes to support you in your growth. 

Do you offer free services?

We do not offer free counseling or coaching. However we do offer a great deal of free resources available to you via our website, including expert Love, Happiness and Success advice on our blog and podcast, free online quizzes, and daily doses of advice and inspiration via Instagram. 

If you are in need of free mental services, or are in crisis, please check out our Emergency Resources page.

Alternatively, you can do a Google search for “Community Mental Health Center in [your town]” These local agencies are government funded and often have free or low cost services available, as well as access to caseworkers who can help you apply for benefits and connect you to other free or low-cost local resources.

What is your cancellation / refund policy?

We have a twenty-four hour cancellation policy (except in the case of illness or emergency) for regular, ongoing counseling or coaching appointments.

If you pre-pay for a solution session or a class and then change your mind, it’s okay: Just cancel and let us know you’d like a refund.

Please do keep in mind that we are real people!  When you schedule an appointment there is a helpful, dedicated professional who has blocked out the time for you in anticipation of your meeting.  Out of consideration for them please do try to give us at least 24 hours advance notice if you can. Thank you.

Who on your team offers sliding scale rates?

How often will I meet with my counselor or coach?

Great question! That depends on a few variables including your goals, your current circumstances, and where you are in your growth process.

Often, people start by scheduling weekly sessions. As they gain traction, they may move to every-other-week meetings (or longer)  in order to have more time to practice the new ways of being they’re learning in their sessions.

Your counselor or coach will give you their honest recommendations once they learn more about you and your unique situation.

How do I...
Contact my counselor or coach?

Of course! You can call our office and simply ask to be transferred to your counselor or coach. 

You can also send an email: Simply respond to your initial appointment confirmation email and your message will be received by your coach.

Going forward, they should provide you with their @growingself.com email address — If they don’t, please contact our office and we’ll provide you with their direct contact information.

Meet by Zoom?

If you scheduled an online video meeting, the email confirmation you were sent when you scheduled your first meeting contains a link to connect with your counselor or coach by confidential online video. (We maintain a HIPAA compliant Zoom platform).

Simply click on that link at the time of your call, and you’ll be connected. If you are doing couples coaching with a long-distance partner, forward them the confirmation email so they have the link too.

If you haven’t used Zoom before, please watch this short (60 second) video for a brief overview of how to use it to ensure you’re ready for that first call: Click to Watch Tip: Please allow Zoom access to your device’s camera and microphone so that we can see and hear you!

If you scheduled an in-person meeting and would like to meet by Zoom (or phone) instead, that is perfectly fine. Simply reply to your confirmation email letting your expert know. They’ll get the message and send you their Zoom link.

Get directions to your office?

Certainly! When you scheduled your first consultation appointment you were sent a confirmation email that provided you with detailed directions to our office (plus a Google Map link) as well as instructions for how to check in and connect with your counselor or coach in-person.

Cancel or reschedule my appointment?

No problem. If you scheduled a first consultation or a solution session, simply open your confirmation email and scroll to the “Cancel or Reschedule” buttons at the bottom.

If you are a current client you can cancel or reschedule your meeting through your online Client Portal Account, or by contacting your expert directly.

Access my client portal account?

Access your client portal account through this link, or by clicking on the Resources tab of our website.

First log in: Create your account using the information that was sent to you via email after your first session. It contains instructions, plus a temporary password.

Here is a link to a short video tutorial showing you how to log in, and access all the features of your portal.

Going forward, log in with your email address and the password that you created. Note: If you are being seen for two different services (ex: couples counseling and individual coaching) you will have two different accounts attached to two different email addresses to ensure your privacy.

You can use your portal account to upload documents, view upcoming appointments, access your statements, change your information, and request appointments with your expert.

Access my statements or billing information?

You can access and download your statements, view and update your billing information, and check your account activity through your online Client Portal Account.

Update my payment information?

You can update your payment information via your online Client Portal Account, or by contacting our office by phone, email or or chat.

At this time we only allow Growing Self vetted expert counselors and coaches to contribute to our blog. This is to ensure that all of the ideas and advice you find on our website is trustworthy, and backed by evidence-based research.
