Hello, my name is Stephanie Oliver and I am a therapist, life coach, and relationship counselor whose passion is to help people create and maintain the long-term, sustainable changes they want to see in order to live life up to their full potential.
My training and experience allows me to work with individuals, couples, and families from diverse backgrounds all over the world. I have experience helping my clients achieve many different types of personal and relationship goals.
If you have never been involved in personal growth work before or if this is one of many attempts, please know that with me, you are walking into a safe and open-minded environment that emphasizes your strengths, hopes, and opportunities. I work with people of all ages, races, religions, genders, ethnicities, and sexual orientations.
I practice evidence-based interventions to help you work through interpersonal, relational, or societal constraints that are preventing you from living fully. My goal is to have a strong, supportive relationship with you that helps you get more of what you want.
If you are starting your growth work in a place of not knowing specifically what you want, that’s okay too! We’ll work together to help you get clarity about what’s most important to you, and then set goals to achieve your ideal outcomes. I am a down to earth, active, and engaged partner in your growth process and I take great interest in your overall well-being.
Couples Therapist and Relationship Coach
I love working with all types of couples and I am always honored when people let me have a glimpse into their intimate and treasured relationships. It is very normal to experience conflict in our relationships, and it can be helpful to have a relationship coach or couples therapist work with you. Whether your struggles are around parenting, sex, money, work-life balance, communication, or even if you don’t really know what’s going on, couples therapy can help.
With couples, I use techniques drawn from Emotion Focused Couples Therapy, an evidence-based model of relationship counseling that focuses on deep healing, connection, and positive long-term improvements in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and more. I focus on fairness and intimacy in couple’s lives by working with mutual support, shared relationship responsibility, shared vulnerability, and mutual influence.
Couples I have worked with notice that they feel generally more warmth toward each other and have become experts in identifying when they are caught up in a destructive pattern, how to redirect themselves into using the positive relationship, and communication skills they learn in our sessions.
Family Therapy and Parent Coaching
As a certified Positive Discipline instructor, I work with parents to help with a variety of challenges with homework, technology, eating, routines, sibling rivalry, and more. I have worked as a school-based therapist with adolescents and their families, so I have a deep understanding of teenagers and their ever-evolving relationships with their parents. I can also help with co-parenting issues, for parents living apart or together.
My Master’s degree is in Marriage and Family Therapy, and I’m licensed as a systemic and family therapist in the UK. I have provided family therapy services to families who have experienced loss, abuse, divorce, historical trauma, and a wide range of issues. My goal when working with families is to create a space where you feel fully able to work through these issues, together, in a non-judgemental and safe environment.
Individual Life Coaching
Working one-on-one with a life coach can have lasting and impactful change not just on you, but also on your personal relationships. I can help you identify your goals and create a path forward to where you are meeting your full potential. I have helped clients work through divorce and breakups, gaining strength and confidence, working through fears, and other issues that arise throughout the life cycle.
Often we are held back by beliefs that were placed on us by our families, peers, society, and sometimes ourselves – I use a liberation-based mindset to help you move forward free from these limiting beliefs.
I am specially trained in the Health at Every Size paradigm, which I use with my clients who have suffered from cycles of dieting and body image issues.
Individual Therapy Services
I am a licensed therapist in Oregon and Colorado. For people in these areas, I am able to offer psychotherapy and mental health treatment. My special areas of interest and training are in adoption, adult survivors of sexual abuse, body image, domestic violence, depression, anxiety, shame, obsession and habitual worrying.
After graduating with my master’s in Marriage, Couples, and Family Therapy from Lewis & Clark College, I worked as a Child and Family Therapist treating families who had been impacted by foster care, drug abuse, mental illness, and trauma.
In 2010 I traveled to Uganda on a cultural exchange for family therapists. I provided training on family therapy to Ugandan counselors and also received training on community-based healing from the counselors in Uganda. It was there I realized the power of societal narratives and the impact those stories have on mental health.
In 2013 I moved to London, England where I worked with families, couples, and individuals from all over the world. In London, I also worked as a school-based therapist, so I have a deep understanding of families with school-age children.
I pride myself on being a culturally competent therapist who focuses on social justice based mental health.
I look forward to meeting you online and answering any questions you may have.
